The Trenton Fire Department has free smoke alarms available in Grundy County for those in need.
Firefighter Robert Romesburg said that to obtain the smoke alarms, residents must allow firefighters to perform a resential home inspection, which would include suggested improvements for home fire safety. Firefighters would then install the smoke alarms in areas of the residence they feel would be most adequate.
Persons interested in getting a smoke alarm are asked to call the fire department at 359-2230 or set up a time for the inspection and installation.
In addition, the fire department has batteries available for those who have smoke detectors that are functioning and are newer than 10 years old. Firefighters would also come and install or change the batteries if persons have already purchased a smoke alarm and just need assistance.
