Trenton High School senior Caitlin McNabb’s competitive golfing days aren’t behind her just yet. Trenton’s top girls golfer signed a national letter of intent on Wednesday afternoon in the Trenton High School commons, officially joining the Graceland University women’s golf program.
McNabb is coming off a senior season that saw her advance to the sectional tournament for the second year in a row. McNabb has been Trenton’s number-one golfer each of the past two seasons after switching sports early in her high school career. McNabb, originally a softball player, joined the golf team after an injury in softball.
“Actually, I never thought I was going to play golf because I played softball in the beginning,” McNabb said. “When I first started playing golf I always knew that I could be better, so I pressed myself really hard to always go farther in golf. I found myself just making it a daily challenge to do one stroke better than I did the previous day or do something different that would make me better. By the end of golf season this year I just knew I wanted to keep making myself better, so I thought playing at the college level would really help me do that.”
McNabb’s effort and will to get better each day really made her a strong golfer at the high school level and a player Trenton Coach Jeremy Austin was pleased to have.
“We have always been very impressed with Caitlin’s work ethic,” Austin said. “It’s just what you want to see happen – one of your hardest workers ends up being your best golfer and has the most success and gets to go on and play past her high school career. Her game has improved steadily and it will be fun to watch how much better she gets when she gets to do it on a little bit more regular basis than what we were able to do just here in practice. She is going to play a lot of golf here over the next few years and I am sure she will excel at it.”
Graceland Women’s Golf Coach Kevin Brunner was excited to bring McNabb on board.
“What I see Caitlin being is someone who started off late in golf because of an injury in softball that caused her to switch sports,” Brunner said. “She has come a long way in the last two or three years and she has a lot of potential because she has a lot of desire to play well. She has a passion for the game and I expect that passion to lead her to greater things when she gets to the college level.”
McNabb will enroll at Graceland in the fall of 2015.
