“Halloween is an exciting night of the year and particularly a special treat for young children,” Sgt. Smith said. “It is also an important time to be extra vigilant for potential safety hazards. The Trenton Police Department wants everyone to have a happy, fun and safe Halloween by following these tips.”
• Do not trick-or-treat by yourself.
• Do not take short cuts, especially through alleys.
• Walk, do not run.
• Look in all directions before crossing the street.
• Walk on the left side of the road (facing traffic) if there is no sidewalk.
• Only trick-or-treat in well-known neighborhoods and with homes that have a porch light on.
• Carry a flashlight and/or wear clothing with reflective markings or tape.
• Never enter a stranger’s home or car for a treat.
• Never consume unwrapped food items or open beverages that may be offered.
• Do not eat treats until they are thoroughly checked by an adult at home.
“Please keep these safety tips in mind so everyone can have a safe and enjoyable Halloween,” Sgt. Smith said.
