The Marshall Philharmonic Orchestra will begin its 52nd season on Sunday under the baton of conductor, Kevin Lines.
The concert will be held in the Harold L. Lickey Auditorium of Bueker Middle School in Marshall and will begin at 2:30 p.m. The concert is free to the public.
This concert will feature Kristee Haney, mezzo-soprano, currently on staff as assistant professor of voice and musical theater at the University of Central Missouri at Warrensburg. Buddy Hannaford of Trenton is a charter member of the orchestra’s horn section.
Dr. Haney joined the UCM faculty in 2013. She continues to make strong impressions as a versatile performer in venues across the United States and abroad. Haney has recent and upcoming roles with the Lyric Opera of Kansas City, and has appeared in operas of Massenet and Handel in the Siena and Trentino Music Festivals in Italy.
No stranger to crossover repertoire, Dr. Haney has performed the roles of Mrs. Lovett (“Sweeney Todd”) with the Mobile Opera, Maria (“The Sound of Music”) with the New Theater and Countess Charlotte Malcom (“A Little Night Music”) with the St. Petersburg Opera. She was also a selected participant for a coaching and master class with legendary actress and performer Carol Burnett, singing selections from Sondheim’s “Company.”
Dr. Haney will perform a work from Handel’s “Giulio Cesara” (“Julius Caesar”) and Bizet’s “Habanera” from “Carmen.”
The concert will open with Brian Balmages’ “Summer Dances,” followed by “Die Fledermaus Overture” by Johann Strauss II. Also on the program will be a waltz from Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty and the work of J.S. Bach, “Sheep May Safely Graze.”
