Celebration of Life services for Charles Benjamin Holt will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014 at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Trenton.
Visitation will be held prior to the services.
Mr. Holt, a 75-year-old resident of Des Moines, IA, died on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2014.
Mr. Holt was born on Feb. 26, 1939 in Grundy County, the son of Ransome and Jewell Fletcher Holt. He grew up on the family farm northeast of Trenton, attending Trenton High School, Trenton Junior College and earning a bachelor’s degree from Lindenwood College.
He was married on Oct. 4, 1957 at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Trenton to Patricia Bowers.
He began his employment as a lineman with Grundy Electric Cooperative in June 1957. He worked as an office manager for Quivre River Co-Op in Troy, was a general manager for Pioneer Electric in Ulysses, KS and a field representative for the REA, which later became Rural Utilities Services. He worked with RUS until his retirement in 2002.
Mr. Holt’s love for animals began as a youth and he had many pets and loved to feed the birds. He enjoyed visits to the zoo, where he proved to be an excellent and informative guide. Besides his family and friends, his greatest love was music, especially choral music. He sang in church choirs his entire life, beginning at Wesley in Trenton and continuing in Troy, Ulysses, Spokane, WA and Des Moines. God’s choir has a new tenor.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia and daughter, Debra (Robert) Rice of Des Moines; a son, Gregory (Rhonda) Holt of Plymouth, IN; granddaughters, Taryn (Matt) Chambless, Kaylee (Andrew) Correll, Alyx Rice and Cally Rice; a great-granddaughter, Jamie Jo Chambless; a sister, Evelyn (Robert) Tapscott of West Plains; a brother, Ed (Mary) Holt of Trenton; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and grandparents, Charles and Lillie Holt and Ben and Bash Fletcher.
