Commission Votes To Keep Road Open, Looks At Roof Bids

Oct 15, 2014 | County Commission, Courthouse News

The Grundy County Commission will leave open a portion of a road in the southern part of the county following action taken Tuesday afternoon. The commission also had a case of sticker shock when they opened bids for replacement of the courthouse roof during the afternoon portion of the meeting.
According to Grundy County Clerk Betty Spickard, the commission voted to leave a portion of S.E. Sage Lane open. A petition had been presented to close the road, which is mostly used by hunters, while a remonstrance had been presented seeking to keep the road open. The commission has talked with Jackson Township officials about maintaining the roadway.
The commission opened two bids for replacement of the courthouse roof, with the low bid of $249,484.18 coming from Skyline Roofing and the second bid coming from Peyton-Roberts Roofing at $375,320. The county’s insurance carrier had offered payment of $53,027 for the project, which did not include masonry work. The Skyline bid had a bid of $205,000 just for the roof, while the Peyton-Roberts bid did not break the estimate down to show the amount for just the roof. Commissioners tabled the bids and will be reviewing them with the insurance company in an effort to reach an agreement.
