Former Trenton resident Burley Don Hague has been recognized by the Missouri State Society, Daughters of the American Revolution as the September “Patriot of the Month.”
Hague was nominated for the honor by the Armstrong Chapter, DAR. A native of Trenton, he was drafted into the Army on Aug. 18, 1942. He served as a light mortar crewman in the Philippines and was in battles and campaigns in the Southern Philippines, Luzon Islands, New Guinea and Bismarck Archipelago. He was awarded four Bronze Stars well as a Good Conduct Medal and Combat Infantry Badge. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, four Overseas Bars and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon.
Hague served 27 months and six days in the South Pacific, being discharged on Oct. 19, 1945 as a T/Sgt from Company D, 172nd Infantry. He had four brothers who were also in the military during World War II – Gerald Lee and Denver, who served in the Army, and Calvin Leroy and Robert Gene, who were in the Navy. Their sister, Edna, helped her husband train Navy pilots to fly airplanes. She and her husband were at Pearl Harbor during the attack on Dec. 7, 1941, with her husband being killed after being hit by machine gun fire.
