A pie baking contest will be featured on the opening night of the Missouri Day Festival on Friday, Oct. 17.
The contest will be held at the FFA cookshack area, just west of the Rock Barn. Area residents are asked to bake their favorite pie (no custard or cream) and enter the contest. There is a $5 entry fee and registration is from 5 to 6 p.m., with judging to follow. Awards will be presented at 9:15 p.m.
A public tasting of the entries will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. For a $5 charge, persons will be able to taste all entered pies.
In addition to the contest, food demonstrations will be taking place. The schedule includes “The Noodle Lady” from the Coon Creek Church, 6 to 6:30 p.m.; Pie Crust Making from the First Christian Church, 6:45 to 7:15 p.m.; and Cupcake Decorating by Sandy’s Sweet, 7:30 to 8 p.m.
