Walter W. “Cotton” Brinnen, a 74-year-old resident of Trenton, died on Saturday morning, Oct. 4, 2014 at Saint Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014 at the Slater Funeral Home in Trenton. Ron Ward will officiate. Burial will be in the Salem Cemetery, northwest of Trenton.
A family visitation will be held from 6 to 7 o’clock tonight (Monday, Oct. 6, 2014) at the funeral home.
Mr. Brinnen was born on April 5, 1940 in Trenton, the son of Wesley Monroe and Lela Marie Heins Brinnen. He was a graduate of Trenton High School, a life-long resident of the Trenton area and a retired farmer. He was a member of the Union (Coon Creek) Baptist Church, west of Trenton.
He was married on April 1, 1999 at Trenton to Dilila Tharp, who survives of the home.
He is also survived by a daughter, Lori Baker of Gallatin; a son, Tony Brinnen of Jamesport; a sister, Eva Rose Gingerich of Trenton; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four step-daughters, Patricia Travis of Liberty, Doris Travis of Salina, KS, and Jackie Marrs and Brenda Tharp, both of Spickard; two step-sons, Wendell Tharp and Richard Tharp, both of Spickard; nine step-grandchildren; 20 step-great-grandchildren; and three step-great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Randy Brinnen; and a sister, Roberta Nigh.
