The Body Camera Committee, comprised of citizens from the area, has decided to pursue purchasing police worn body cameras for the Trenton Police Department.
Police Chief Tommy Wright said the committee held its final formal meeting on Thursday night and decided to move forward with the project. Committee members will begin fundraising efforts over the course of the next few weeks and Wright will soon announce what those efforts will be. The committee has established a goal of $15,000 in order to equip the police department with the body cameras.
Wright said that anyone wishing to financially partner with the committee can do so by making a cash contribution or check, payable to Green Hills Regional Planning Commission, and deliver their contribution to either the Trenton Police Department or the RPC. “Police Body Cameras” should be written in the memo section of the check. All donations are tax deductible.
Wright said he would like to thank the community members who participated in the committee.
“I appreciate all of their input and commitment to helping us on this project,” he said.
Wright also recognized Dr. Neil and Susanne Nuttall for being the first financial partner on the project by making a donation.
Anyone with questions concerning the body cameras or the fundraising effort can contact Chief Wright at 660-359-5557 or by email, [email protected].
A Trenton business has challenged other businesses in the community to assist with the fundraising efforts for the body cameras.
Gary and Sandy Smith of Washed Away Laundry are asking all businesses in Trenton to make a donation to the project, noting that each camera can cost around $800.
