The Trenton Lady Bulldogs tennis team just missed a win on senior night Tuesday in Trenton. The Lady Bulldogs came close, but wound up on the losing end of a 5-4 dual with the visiting Lexington Minutewomen.
Alvynne Villacampa dropped her singles match at number one 8-6, but Hannah Sowder scored an 8-4 win to even the score early. Ashley Allen and Claire Utley were dealt losses of 8-0 and 8-3 respectively, but Hannah Robinson and Hannah Farmer both scored 8-4 victories to even the dual score heading into doubles play.
In doubles action, Villacampa and Sowder fell 8-5, but Allen and Robinson won 8-5. Utley and Farmer fell 8-4 in the final match of the dual, giving Lexington the narrowest of victories.
Trenton’s junior varsity picked up a win, taking two of three JV matches contested. Samantha Mihalovich and Alainey Shipley-Fair picked up a 6-2 doubles victory and Cassidy Trump and Codi Delong won their doubles match 6-3. Abbie Shuler and Madison Untiedt fell 7-6, losing the tiebreaker 7-1.
“We played some of the best tennis we have played all year,” Lady Bulldogs’ Head Coach Lauren Boswell said. “It was senior night and our last home match. The girls really played hard. We had some success individually, the JV won overall, and the varsity came very close to a team victory.”
Trenton’s tennis team wraps up the regular season on Thursday, traveling to Kirksville for one final dual. First serves are scheduled for 4 p.m.
