Sep 23, 2014 | Obituaries

Our beautiful and giving mother and nana – Ruby Katherine Marquis left this life on Sept. 22, 2014.
Ruby Katherine May was born on April 18, 1920 in Walker to Barney and Alberta May. She joined siblings Virginia and Robert. In 1922 they were blessed with a fourth little one, Charles.
Ruby married her childhood sweetheart, Charles R. Marquis on August 28, 1943 in Olathe, KS where he was stationed at the Olathe Naval Station. After WWII they settled back in Kansas City, with Ruby working at Sears while Charles finished his Pharmacy degree at UMKC.
After Charles finished pharmacy school in 1949, he and Ruby moved to Maryville. In 1953, the family moved to Trenton where they became business partners with Clell and Dee Carpenter. They owned the Fair Drug Store together from 1955 to 1980. The Jewel Box was opened in 1963 and closed in 2000. When Charles and Ruby closed the Jewel Box, they were presented with the key to the city from the Trenton Area Chamber of Commerce.
Ruby was a member of the First Baptist Church of Trenton, Parson Chapter #189, OES, and a wonderful group of friends with Beta Sigma Phi for over 60 years.
Ruby and Charles moved to De Soto, KS in 2004 to be closer to their family. She had recently recuperated from a fall and moved to Edgerton with Karen and Ed.
Ruby has passed this life to join her beloved Charles, her parents, sister, two brothers and beloved grandson, Paul Marquis Jackson.
She is survived by her family of daughter Karen Jackson and Ed Hadley of Edgerton, KS; daughter Sandra and Gary Davis of De Soto, KS; granddaughters Brittina and Craig Walion of Gardner, KS, Saja and Terry Gregg of Olathe, KS and Angela and Chris Tate of Ottawa, KS; grandson, Jared and Shawna Jackson of Overland Park, KS; great-grandsons Quenton and Parker Walion and Chase Gregg; great-granddaughters Taylor and Madison Gregg, Payton and Kinnley Tate, Olivia Walion and Charlie Jackson; plus many, many nieces and nephews, who will all miss her smiling little face.
Ruby was a sweet and patient lady…always a lady but so much more as a wonderful mother, nana and friend.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 26, 2014 at Resthaven Mortuary of Trenton. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, north of Trenton. A visitation is scheduled from 10 a.m. until service time Friday.
