The Trenton Lady Bulldogs tennis team is young and short on experience. That showed in a big way on Thursday as the Chillicothe Lady Hornets, paced by a pair of state qualifiers, came in and took a 9-0 dual victory over Trenton at the THS tennis courts.
“Our varsity had to play a much higher level of tennis tonight,” Lady Bulldogs Head Coach Lauren Boswell said. “The girls played some great points but, unfortunately, the scores were lower than we wanted them to be.”
Trenton wasn’t able to secure more than a point in singles play as Alvynne Villacampa lost 8-0, Hannah Sowder fell 8-1, Ashley Allen lost 8-0, Claire Utley fell 8-0, Hannah Robinson lost 8-1 and Hannah Farmer fell 8-1.
Trenton continued to struggle in doubles play. Villacampa and Allen lost 8-0, Sowder and Robinson fell 8-1 and Utley and Farmer were defeated 8-1.
As rough as the varsity match-up was, Trenton’s junior varsity has a solid showing against the Lady Hornets JV, taking three-of-five matches. Samantha Mihalovich and Alainey Shipley-Fair dropped their first match 6-2, but came back to pick up a 6-1 win in their second match. Cassidy Trump and Codi Delong fell 7-6, losing the tiebreaker 10-8, but also bounced back with a 6-2 victory in their second match of the day. Abby Shuler and Madison Untiedt won 6-4 in their lone match of the JV dual.
“The JV had a successful night tonight,” Boswell said. “Coach (Bobbie) Lovell and I are very proud of them.”
Trenton’s tennis team will return to the court on Monday, taking on Carrollton at home at 4 p.m.
