Commission Looks At Storm Damage

Sep 17, 2014 | County Commission, Courthouse News

The Grundy County Commission spent time traveling around the county Tuesday in an effort to determine the amount of damage from last week’s heavy rains.
Presiding Commissioner Rick Hull said the commission is estimating about $450,000 in damage throughout the county, including $50,000 estimated for debris removal and $400,000 for roads. In addition, the City of Spickard is estimating about $42,000 in damage on its roads located within the city limits. Hull noted that so far about $5.1 million has been estimated throughout the state and if that total reaches $8.1 million, funds from the Federal Emergency Management Agency will become available. If that threshold is reached, the county would be required to pay 25 percent of the cost, which could be in labor, materials or equipment time. If not, the repairs and cleanup would have to be paid for out of county funds.
