Car Seat Checks Planned

Sep 16, 2014 | Headline News

Sept. 14-20 is National Child Passenger Safety Week and the Grundy County Health Department has announced it will be conducting child seat checks on Wednesday, Sept. 17 and Friday, Sept. 19
The checks will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on both days. Other times are available, if persons call ahead. This is a free service that is open to anyone.
According to information provided by the health department, approximately three out of four car seats in the U.S. are not used correctly. Examples include the seat being installed in the vehicle incorrectly, straps being used wrong, seats facing the wrong direction and the child being in the wrong type of seat.
There have been some recommendation changes regarding child seats, including that a child should remain rear-facing until the age of two or until they hit the upper height or weight limit of their seat. Persons with questions can contact the health department at 359-4196.
