The Trenton Middle School softball team had a strong day on Saturday at the Hamilton Tournament, going 2-0 and winning the championship. Trenton picked up an 18-2 win over Cameron to advance to the championship game, where TMS defeated Hamilton 8-0.
In game one, Trenton made short work of Cameron, winning in three innings. Ainsley Tolson was the winning pitcher, throwing all three frames and allowing two unearned runs while striking out eight.
Offensively, Tolson and Lexie Whitaker were both two-for-three with three runs scored a walk and an RBI. Tolson added a stolen base. Salem Croy was two-for-three with a double, two runs scored and an RBI. Taylor Richman had a double, three runs scored, walked once and drove in a run and Mykah Hurley had a hit, a steal, a walk, an RBI and scored two runs. Trenton also got an RBI and a run from McKayla Blackburn, two runs from Maycie Mayfield and one run each from Sidney Lynch and Haley Kidd.
The win advanced Trenton to the title game where they shut out host-school Hamilton. Tolson was the winning pitcher again, throwing seven innings and facing just three more batters than the minimum. She allowed just one hit and struck out 11 in the game.
At the plate, Blackburn was one-for-three with two runs scored and an RBI. Tolson, Richman, Croy, Whitaker, Kidd and Lynch were all one-for-three with a run scored. Mayfield had a hit in the win as well.
With the victories, Trenton improved to 3-0 on the season.
The TMS squad will be back on the diamond tonight, weather permitting, playing host to Plattsburg at 5 p.m. at Johnson Field.
