Trenton Wins Battle Of Bulldogs On The Road In Brookfield

The Trenton Lady Bulldogs softball team traveled to Brookfield on Tuesday night, facing off with Brookfield’s Lady Bulldogs.
Both squads had opportunities early on, but neither team was able to push a run across the plate until the fifth inning, when Megan Lynch doubled and then scored when Whitley Richman reached on an error. The Lady Bulldogs struck again in the sixth when Shayla Woodside reached on an error, advanced to second on a single by Jayden Roeder and scored on a single to left field by McKinley Hurley.
Trenton scored for the third inning in a row in the seventh when Lexie Tolson singled. With Tenna Roberts running for Tolson, Mallory Hooyman belted a two-run home run over the left field fence.
The two runs added in the seventh turned out to be huge as Brookfield went down with a fight in the bottom of the frame, plating a pair of runs on three hits, a walk and a Trenton error.
“This was another game that will help us be a better team in October,” Lady Bulldogs’ Head Coach John Cowling said. “We were solid defensively and Mallory kept working out of jams all night. Our offense kept pounding away at a good Brookfield pitcher until we finally broke through late. We played a good all-around game tonight against a good team.”
After holding on in the seventh, Hooyman picked up the win in the circle, firing all seven innings, allowing one earned run on six hits and three walks while striking out 10 in the game.
At the plate, Trenton was paced by Lynch, who was 2-for-3, Hurley and Tolson, both of whom went 2-for-4. Trenton totaled 11 hits in the win.
With the win, Trenton improved to 7-2 on the season.
Junior Varsity
Trenton’s junior varsity team moved to 4-1 on the season with a 5-2 win over Brookfield in a weather-shortened game.
Ashten Whitaker was the winning pitcher, throwing two innings, allowing two runs on five hits. Bailey Bankson led the offense with a triple and a run scored. Jessi Westcott had a single, two steals and a run scored and Tenna Roberts had a hit, an RBI and two steals. Hannah Kennebeck was 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI. Alyssa Kosse had a double and a run scored.
Both Trenton’s varsity and junior varsity are scheduled to play host to Carrollton in make-up games tonight at Griffin Field, assuming dry field conditions can be attained.
