JV Football Team Downs Princeton, 22-14

Sep 9, 2014 | Football, Sports & Recreation

The Trenton High School junior varsity football team traveled to Eddie Allen Field in Princeton for a match-up with the JV Tigers on Monday night. Trenton allowed two big plays, but still managed to return home with a 22-14 victory.
Princeton started the scoring in the first quarter, connecting on a 43-yard touchdown pass and running in a two-point conversion for an early 8-0 lead. Trenton would answer in the second quarter on a one-yard run by Spencer Harris. Keone Stanton ran in the two-point try and the game was tied at 8-8.
Before halftime, Princeton found the end zone through the air for a second time, this touchdown coming on a 60-yard pass. The two-point try failed, however, and the Tigers took a 14-8 lead into the locker room at halftime.
After a scoreless third quarter, Trenton forced a fumble and Harris fell on it in the end zone for the tying touchdown. Trenton’s two-point try failed, leaving the two squads all square at 14-14.
Trenton took its first lead of the game when Stanton ran the ball in from 26 yards out. Lucas Clark scored on the two-point try and Trenton led 22-14. That lead would hold through the end of the quarter and Trenton scored the eight-point win.
“I thought the kids played well,” Trenton JV Coach Greg Dalrymple said. “We were off last week and the younger kids have to get most of their reps during practice as the scout team. So, it is really nice to see them figure things out and get better.
“The defense let two big passes get over their heads, but rebounded well and came up with three picks including one in the end zone and one to seal the victory. Coach (Dave) Sager and the offense came through when it counted. It was a great team win.”
With the victory, Trenton’s junior varsity football team improved to 2-0 on the season. The JV Bulldogs will be back in action next Monday, traveling to Higginsville to take on the Huskers’ JV unit. Kickoff for the JV contest is scheduled for 6 p.m.
