The Trenton area has an abundance of talented artists and many will be offering their work for sale on Saturday, Sept. 13 during a fundraiser for the North 65 Center.
“Art Fest 2014” will feature several types of media, ranging from watercolors and oils to pottery and even some jewelry. Both a live and silent auction of items will be held throughout the evening, along with live music, food and wine tasting.
Among the featured artists will be Ellen Embry Dolan, a native of Trenton who majored in art while a student at Lindenwood College and received her art education degree from Truman State University. She taught art in the school system at the Girls Training School in Chillicothe for many years before having a family with her husband, Gary Dolan.
Mrs. Dolan went to college with the intention to major in home economics. But after an “Introduction to Art” class, her major quickly changed.
“The arts were as natural and flowing as water off a duck’s back,” Mrs Dolan said, adding that the history of art kept her mind more engaged than the production of art, although she dabbles in watercolor, oil painting and printmaking. While she dabbles on paper, her ability runs along the lines of “criticism.”
“If I could live a dream, it would be as an art gallery owner and an art critic…sort of a Don King character; promoter of the art world,” she said.
“Pine Tree,” a watercolor and colored pencil drawing, will be featured for sale at the event. She said the subject matter was inspired by her summers on the north shore of Lake Superior, MN.
“Art Fest 2014” activities get under way at 6 p.m., with the live auction set for 7 p.m. The cost is $25 per person and tickets are available at the North 65 Center, the Trenton Area Chamber of Commerce or the Trenton Republican-Times.
