Trenton Netters Stop LeBlond

Sep 3, 2014 | Sports & Recreation, Tennis

The Trenton Lady Bulldogs high school tennis team scored an impressive 5-4 victory over LeBlond Tuesday afternoon in St. Joseph.
Trenton’s top three players gave the Lady Bulldogs some solid footing as Alvynne Villacampa won 8-4, Hannah Sowder won 8-4 and Ashley Allen won 8-3.
Trenton stumbled a bit near the end of singles play with Claire Utley losing 8-4 at number four and Hannah Farmer losing 8-6, but Hannah Robinson scored an 8-2 victory at number five to send Trenton into doubles play leading 4-2.
Trenton needed just one win in doubles action and Villacampa and Utley nearly delivered it. The duo tied their LeBlond opponents 8-8, but dropped the tiebreaker 9-7. It turned out to be a moot point, however, as Sowder and Robinson picked up an 8-4 victory to seal the dual. Allen and Farmer dropped the final doubles match of the dual 8-4 to make the final score 5-4 in Trenton’s favor.
With the win, Trenton improved to 1-2 on the season.
Trenton’s junior varsity picked up a 3-0 win over LeBlond. Samantha Mihalovich and Alainey Shipley-Fair picked up a 6-1 doubles win, Cassidy Trump and Abbie Shuler won their doubles match 7-5 and Codi Delong and Madison Untiedt picked up a 6-0 doubles win.
“Coach Lovell and I were very proud of the effort the girls put forth tonight,” Lady Bulldogs’ Head Coach Lauren Boswell said. “They all brought their best games to the courts and it resulted in a team win overall for both the JV and varsity.”
Trenton’s tennis teams were back on the court today, playing in the Chillicothe Quad.
