The Trenton Lady Bulldogs high school tennis team faced maybe the toughest team on its schedule Wednesday in its first dual of the 2014 season. Trenton traveled to Chillicothe, where the Lady Bulldogs fell, 9-0.
Trenton struggled against Chillicothe’s top tier players. Alvynne Villacampa, making a big jump to number one, was handed an 8-0 loss. Hannah Sowder, Ashley Allen and Claire Utley all took 8-0 losses as well, giving Chillicothe a 4-0 lead early.
Rounding out singles play, Trenton was able to get on the board, but still couldn’t steal a game. Hannah Robinson lost 8-3 and Hannah Farmer lost 8-4.
Doubles action saw Villacampa and Sowder lose 8-0, Utley and Allen fall 8-1 and Farmer and Robinson lose 8-0. The loss established an 0-1 record for Trenton.
“The girls got some much-needed match experience tonight,” Lady Bulldogs’ head Coach Lauren Boswell said. “Chillicothe is one of the toughest teams we will face this year, so it is nice to get that match under our belts. Coach (Bobbie) Lovell and I are excited to see what the rest of the season will bring.”
Junior varsity action saw Alainey Shipley-Fair and Sam Mihalovich win twice, once 6-0 and once 6-5. The duo also dropped a match, 6-4. Abbie Shuler and Cassidy Trump won 6-2 and lost 7-5 and Codi Delong and Madison Untiedt lost 6-4.
