Summer vacation ended this morning for any area students who remained on break, with classes beginning in the Trenton R-9, Pleasant View R-6, Laredo R-7, Spickard R-2, Princeton R-5, Newtown-Harris and Tri-County R-7 school districts.
Trenton R-9
Enrollment in the Trenton R-9 School District was down 66 students today over the first day last year, with 1,113 students enrolled in grades kindergarten through 12. Enrollment was down 42 students last year from the 2012-2013 school year.
The largest class at Trenton is the sophomore class, which has 103 students beginning the year, while the smallest class is the kindergarten, which has 70 students. Enrollment at Rissler Elementary School, which serves kindergarten though fourth grade is 415 students, with 350 students enrolled at Trenton Middle School in grades five through eight. Trenton High School has 348 students in grades nine through 12. Enrollment by grade is kindergarten, 70; first grade, 98; second grade, 79; third grade, 85; fourth grade, 83; fifth grade, 81; sixth grade, 94; seventh grade, 84; eighth grade, 91; ninth grade, 82; 10th grade, 103; 11th grade, 79; and 12th grade, 84.
Pleasant View R-6
Enrollment at the Pleasant View R-6 School was steady in grades kindergarten through eight over the first day last year. Enrollment remained the same at 70 students, with the first grade having the largest class with 14 and the seventh and eighth grades each having three students. Enrollment by grade was kindergarten, 13; first grade, 14; second grade, 8; third grade, 8; fourth grade, 8; fifth grade, 8; sixth grade, 5; seventh grade, 3; and eighth grade, 3. In addition, there are 15 students in Mrs. Lake’s preschool.
Laredo R-7
There were 60 students enrolled in classes at the Laredo R-7 School, down two students over the first day last year. The largest class this year is the third and fourth grade, with 16 students, while the smallest is the kindergarten class, with eight students. Enrollment by grade is kindergarten, 8; first and second grades, 11; third and fourth grades, 16; fifth and sixth grades, 14; and seventh and eighth grades, 10. In addition, there are four students in preschool, which is the same as last year.
Spickard R-2
There are 29 students enrolled in preschool through sixth grade at the Spickard R-2 School this year. Last year, there were 43 students in grades preschool through six.
Enrollment by grade is preschool and kindergarten, 5; first and second grades, 10; third and fourth grades, 6; and fifth and sixth grades, 8.
Princeton R-5
First-day enrollment at the Princeton R-5 School was up 17 students over the first day last year, with 384 students enrolled in grades kindergarten through 12. The largest class is the senior class, which has 39 students. The smallest class is first grade, which has 21 students. Enrollment by grade is kindergarten, 32; first grade, 21; second grade, 29; third grade, 26; fourth grade, 26; fifth grade, 22; sixth grade, 35; seventh grade, 25; eighth grade, 34; ninth grade, 34; 10th grade, 33; 11th grade, 28; and 12th grade, 39.
Newtown-Harris
First-day enrollment at the Newtown-Harris School was steady over last year, with 92 students enrolled. There are 49 students in kindergarten through eighth grade, with 43 students in grades seven through 12. The largest class is the third grade, which has 10 students, while the smallest class is fifth grade, with four students. Enrollment by grade is kindergarten, 6; first grade, 7; second grade, 8; third grade, 10; fourth grade, 7; fifth grade, 4; sixth grade, 7; seventh grade, 7; eighth grade, 7; ninth grade, 7; 10th grade, 8; 11th grade, 7; and 12th grade, 7.
Tri-County R-7
Enrollment at Tri-County R-7 School at Jamesport was 196 students in preschool through 12th grade, which school officials said was an increase of 24 students over last year. No other details were available as of presss time today.
