Memorial services for Hugh G. Watkins will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014 at the Slater Funeral Home in Trenton with Bro. Danny Moore officiating.
A family visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
Mr. Watkins, an 85-year-old resident of Trenton, died on Friday afternoon, Aug.15, 2014 at his home. The body was cremated.
Mr. Watkins was born on Aug. 12, 1929 in Jamesport, the son of Hugh Palmer and Lesta Opal Graham Watkins. He attended McVay rural school and graduated from Spickard High School in 1947. He moved to a farm four miles west of Spickard in March 1932. He did wheat harvest, built about 1,700 buildings, put up 300 to 400 grain bins and was partners with his dad in farming.
He was a member and church pastor of the Modena Christian Church in Modena, for over 30 years. He also was a member of the Spickard Fire Department.
He was married on Sept. 28, 1949 at American Falls, ID to Mary R. Dennis.
He is survived by his wife, Mary of the home; three daughters, Carol Lovell of Trenton, Nancy Lewis of Lawson and Melody Chapman and her husband Martin of Spickard; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Sidney Watkins; two sons-in-law, Dan Lewis and William Lovell; and one grandson, Brad Lovell.
Memorials are suggested to either the Modena Christian Church or the Spickard Fire Department. They may be left at the funeral home.
