“Celebrating 30 years…Remembering the 80’s” is the theme of the 30th annual Missouri Day Festival Parade.
The Trenton Rotary Club announced the theme and is encouraging organizations, businesses, churches and individuals to recall the fabulous 80’s as they plan entries in the Oct. 18 festival parade. Organized in October 1985, the Missouri Day Festival has grown into one of the largest fall festivals in the entire state and this year’s theme will hnor the 30 years of the event.
Publicity chairman for the parade, Rotarian Steve Maxey, said a five-member committee will head up the parade this year with a committee of nearly 20 coordinating the efforts for the area’s premier parade. Joining Maxey as parade co-chairs are Rick Klinginsmith, Cara McClellan, Matt Osterthun and Steve Taylor, all members of the Trenton Rotary Club.
Maxey says folks are encouraged to recall the movies, the music, the clothing and hair do’s and all of the great memories of the 1980’s and present a colorful parade entry while having fun and the opportunity to win cash prizes.
The Oct. 18 parade will again begin at 8:30 a.m. and travel through the streets of Trenton. As in the past, many high school marching bands will join in the parade as a part of the Missouri Day Marching Band Festival – all highlighting the three-day festival.
Categories of competition will soon be announced for the parade with prize money expected to exceed $1,000. Political entries will be required to pay a $25 entry fee with funds used to offset parade expenses as in the past and, once again, candy will not be allowed to be thrown from parade entries. However, walkers in the parade may distribute candy.
