A tractor-trailer rig was involved a mishap recently involving in a water meter pit lid.
According to Trenton Police Det. Jerry Smith’s accident report, the mishap occurred when Mitchell E. Brooks of Pendergrass, GA, was operating the semi and became lost attempting to find ConAgra Foods. He was eastbound on East 20th Street and stopped for the stop sign at Chestnut Street. He attempted to make a right turn and travel south on Chestnut Stret. Due to the length of the tractor-trailer, he drove up on the shoulder between the curb and the sidewalk and the left front tractor tire ran over a cast iron water meter pit lid on Lulu Street. The lid and casing around the water meter broke, but the meter itself was not damaged. Not knowing he had damaged the lid, Brooks left the scene. A witness notified police, who located Brooks. Brooks paid the cost of repairing the lid, which was $50.42. No tickets were issued.
