The Trenton Building and Nuisance Board met on Monday night, taking action on several properties.
Following a public hearing, the board voted to declare a public nuisance on properties at 427 W. 13th St., owned by Edward and Penny Jones; 506 Grundy St., owned by James Smith; and 1214 Shanklin Ave., owned by Kenny and Ronda Howard. Declaration of nuisances were approved for properties at 615 W. Fourth St., owned by Matt Gannan; 702 E. Fifth St., owned by Dan Etter; and 905 Rural St., owned by Betty Frydman. Certificates of the existence of a dangerous building were issued for 119 Kavanaugh, owned by Laura Pina; 431 W. 13th St., owned by Danny Harkins; and 3915 Oklahoma Ave., owned by James Corethers.
The board asked Building Inspector Donnie Vandevender to seek bids on properties members reviewed during a recent driving tour of proposed demolition sites. The board will review the bids to determine which properties will then be taken down. Bids will not be sought on the former American Legion building as well as a structure on 28th Street.
Approval was given to issue 10-day abatement notices to property at 2701 Lulu St., owned by Amy and Barbara Ellis; 507 Main St., owned by Neva Witt; 501 Main St., owned by Dorothy Roberts; 515 E. Ninth Ct., owned by Forrest Shirley; 837 W. 13th St., owned by Warren Simpson; and a trailer at Countryside Trailer Court, owned by Richard Peterie.
Vandevender reported that some clean-up work has been done to property at 214 W. 11th St. He said the owner plans to ask the city to rezone the property so that he can rent it to a group that would locate a men’s homeless shelter there. He also reported that he has visited again with the owner of 1030 Laclede St. regarding demolition of the house, which was supposed to be completed by mid-June, requesting that he make more progress on the project. He said that a recent fire at 312 W. 12 St. did not hurt the structure of the home and that the owner, who lives in California, will be back in August and plans to do work on the home.
