Spickard Board Approves Changes To Lunch Program

Jul 22, 2014 | Headline News

The Spickard R-2 Board of Education met Monday evening, approving a change in the way the school lunch program works and making a change in the attendance policy.
According to information provided by Principal Burnie Schneiderheinze, the board approved a school lunch program that will rotate 25 meals, with students having only one option. Last year, students had a choice of two entrees each day for lunch.
Also approved was a change in the student handbook in regard to attendance. Students who miss 10 days will be referred to the attendance committee. In the past, that number was 15 days. The out-of-school suspension policy was also updated. Board members also agreed to block in five windows in the cafeteria, art and music rooms, which will address inefficient windows and security issues. Several bids were approved, including MFA, fuel and propane; Hy-Vee, bread; and Anderson Erickson, milk.
In other business, the board approved a school credit card and the faculty handbook, which had no changes, as well as the accountability plan, which will be sent to the state. Schneiderheinze gave a financial/budget update, noting that the district will see a decrease in Proposition C money. Upcoming dates were given to board members, including the open house, Aug. 19; first day of school, Aug. 20; and the MSBA Conference, Sept. 26-28.
A closed session was held to discuss personnel and students, with no announcement made.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for Aug. 18.
