Gerald Dean Collings, a 73-year-old resident of Princeton, died on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at the North Kansas City Hospital.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. today (Monday, July 21, 2014) at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Princeton with Father Drew officiating.
Burial was in the Hunter Cemetery, southeast of Princeton. Arrangements were under the direction of the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Service of Princeton.
Mr. Collings was born on Oct. 16, 1940 in Princeton, the son of Olin Clinton and Verna McClaran Collings. He was raised in Mercer County and was a 1958 graduate of Princeton High School. Soon after graduation, he pursued a career with the Missouri State Highway Patrol. He served with the patrol for 13 years before eventually returning back to Princeton to farm.
He was an active leader in the local Boy Scouts troop for many years, raising three Eagle Scouts of his own.
He was married on Jan. 4, 1964 to Susan Joan Wiedmaier, who survives of the home.
He is also survived by three sons, Patrick Collings and his wife, Haoli of St. Louis, Michael Collings and his wife, Jessica of Kearney and Richard Collings of New York City, NY; a daughter, Jennifer Holland of Jefferson City; three grandchildren, Tara and William Collings and Olivia Holland; four sisters, Helen Riggs of Kansas City, KS, Margaret Frazee and Norma Hickman, both of Liberty, and Phyllis Ishmael of Princeton; several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and by many, many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Harold Collings; a sister-in-law, Helen Collings; two brothers-in-law, Charles Riggs and Lewis Frazee; and two nephews, Richard Dale Collings and David Lee Ishmael.
