Battle Of The Bands Will Kick Off NCM Fair Activities

The North Central Missouri Fair will be coming up in a little less than two weeks, but will actually begin a few days before the official start date with a new event being added.
“The Battle of the Bands” will be taking place on Saturday night, July 26 at the grandstand area of the fairgrounds. Three bands are scheduled to perform during the evening and is being promoted as the “kickoff” to the 2014 NCM Fair activities.
Crooked River is scheduled to perform from 7 to 9 p.m., followed by Gold Rush from 9 to 11 p.m. and Bridges Burnt from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 6 to 12 and free for children age 5 and under. This event is a fundraiser for the fair.
The fair officially begins on Tuesday July 29 with the entry of fine arts items at the Rock Barn from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The FFA cookshack opens at 10 a.m. and will remain open until 10 p.m. each day.
The parade gets under way at 5:30 p.m. Entries are currently being accepted at the Trenton Area Chamber of Commerce office and can be called in at 359-4324 or e-mailed to the chamber office at [email protected]. The parade will follow the traditional fair parade route, which begins on East 12th Street and continues west to Harris Avenue, north on Harris Avenue to 17th Street, then west to Main Street, where it will turn south and continue on Main Street to Ninth Street. The parade will then travel east back to the fairgrounds.
The FFA Alumni barbecue will be held immediately after the parade. The grand coronation of the fair queen is set for 7 p.m. in the courtyard of the Rock Barn. There are five candidates in the competition, with the winner to represent the fair in the Missouri State Fair Queen contest in 2015.
Wednesday’s schedule kicks off with the pee wee swine show at 9 a.m., followed by the regular swine and barrow show in the livestock pavillion. The pee wee goat show is at 6:30 p.m., followed by the regular goat show. The evening entertainment at the grandstand is a tractor pull by the North Missouri Farm Pullers Association, which starts at 7 o’clock. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 6 to 12 and free for children 5 and under.
Floriculture entries will be taken from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Rock Barn, with the rabbit and poultry show set for 9 a.m. The dairy show, including bucket calves, kicks off at 1 p.m. in the livestock pavillion. Muttin’ Bustin’ will take place at 6 p.m. at the grandstand, followed by the Trenton Bull Bash at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $12 for adults, $5 for children 6 to 12 and free for children 5 and under.
The ladies lead, pee wee and breeding sheep show kicks off activities on Friday at 9 a.m. in the livestock pavillion. ATV and dirt bike motocross races are scheduled at 7 p.m. at the grandstand, with registration set for 4:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 6 to 12 and free for children 5 and under. Pit passes are available for $15. The Country Showdown will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Rock Barn courtyard area. Persons attending this free event are asked to bring lawn chairs for seating.
Registration for the horse show will take place from 8 to 8:45 a.m. on Saturday at the North Missouri Saddle Club grounds, followed by the show at 9 a.m. The beef bucket calf show, beef breeding and steer show will take place in the pavillion at 9 a.m. A baby show will be held in the courtyard area at 10 a.m., sponsored by the Trenton FFA.
In the grandstand area, arm wrestling will take place at 1 p.m. Admission is $4. The demolition derby is slated for a 7 p.m. start and participants can check in through the high school parking lot at 4 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 6 to 12 and free for children 5 and under. Pit passes are $20 and no one under the age of 15 will be allowed in the pit area.
Kenny’s Fun Land will have rides available on each day of the fair.
