WMH Wins Challenge To Assessment

Jul 15, 2014 | Announcements

The Missouri State Tax Commission has ruled in favor of Wright Memorial Hospital in a case involving the 2012 appraisal value and assessment for the hospital’s physician’s clinic.
The commission set the appraised valuation of the physician’s clinic at $1,160,000 which is about one-third of what the county had set it, which was $3.11 million. The Grundy County Board of Equalization, which heard the case when the hospital first appealed it to them, set the assessment at $963,610, with WMH’s proposed assessment listed at zero. The hospital itself, owned by the J.B. Wright Trust, is tax exempt.
Grundy County Assessor Kathy Veatch said the Pleasant View R-6 School District will get about one-third of the amount it would have received. It was estimated based on the 2012 levy of $4.3763 that R-6 would have received about $40,000.
The BOE set the 2013 value the same as 2012 and the hospital has appealed that value, asking for a total exemption, something Mrs. Veatch said would set a precedence for the entire state.
