Emma Smith, an 83-year-old resident of Columbia and former Trenton resident, died on Friday, June 6, 2014, in the Parkside Manor Nursing Home in Columbia, where she had resided since December, 2013.
A memorial graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 20, 2014 at the Resthaven Memorial Gardens, north of Trenton.
Mrs. Smith was born on Dec. 18, 1930, in Grundy County, a daughter of Fred and Nellie Gott Claassen. She was married to Eston Smith on June 1, 1946 at Brimson. They farmed in Harrison County until moving to Trenton in 1965 where she owned and operated a beauty salon. He preceded her in death on Aug. 19, 1982. In 1996 she moved to Columbia, where she became a licensed day care provider.
Survivors include one son, Eric and his wife, Jeanie of Omaha, NE; two daughters, Sharla Campbell and her husband, Roger of Laredo and Marla Smith of Columbia; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one granddaughter.
The family suggests contributions to the March of Dimes in memory of Mrs. Smith. Memorials may be mailed to Whitaker-Eads Funeral Home, 813 Custer, Trenton, MO 64683.
