Princeton Council OKs Ordinance For Sales Tax Proposal

The Princeton City Council will be seeking voter approval of a sales tax in November following action taken at the council meeting on Monday.
According to City Clerk Keri Stamper, the ordinance will allow a sales tax of one-half of 1 percent to be placed on the November ballot. If approved, the tax will provide funding for street maintenance.
Council members approved a free swim on July 29 for children involved in the summer reading program at the library and approved fireworks permits for Jeff Power and Bill Heck. Liquor licenses were approved for Crossroads, Jeff’s Place, Chiefs, Casey’s and Snappy’s and a catering permit was approved for July 4 for Jeff’s Place on property at Jefferson and Water streets, where a beer garden and band will be located. A service contract in the amount of $325 was approved for the Princeton Area Chamber of Commerce for entertainment on July 5. A total of 13 individuals are scheduled to perform. Also approved was a building permit for Grand River Mutual Telephone Company, which is constructing a new office at 1001 Kentucky St.
The next meeting is scheduled for July 7.
