Memorial Day Observance

Programs honoring veterans are scheduled for Memorial Day.
The Joseph L. Norton Post 919, VFW will lay a wreath at the grave of its namesake at Maple Grove Cemetery at 10 a.m. and will raise the U.S. flag and conduct a rifle salute at approximately 11 a.m., at the Baker School flagpole, followed by brief patriotic remarks by Bob Chenoweth.
A Tribute to Veterans program is scheduled at 1:30 p.m. in the lower level of the Masonic Lodge featuring comments by local veterans about their military service experiences in Afghanistan and Iraq. Those scheduled to speak at the event include Drew Hibner and Tyler Anderson, members of the Missouri National Guard 548th Transportation Company, who will discuss their experiences in Afghanistan and share a video of an IED that exploded near them. In addition, Louis Hendren will discuss his 22 years of military experience and time served on an aircraft carrier, and Bart Shaw will share his military experiences serving on an attack destroyer. All of the speakers have served during war time.
