Golfers Finish Second In Triangular

May 2, 2014 | Golf, Sports & Recreation

The Trenton High School boys golf team finished in the middle of the pack in a three-team match played at St. Joseph LeBlond on Thursday.
The Bulldogs had a score of 170 to finish second to the host school, LeBlond, which earned top honors with a 159. Maryville was third at 173.
Trenton’s Chase Tolson shot a 38 to lead the Bulldogs and tie for medalist honors with Sam Shanze of LeBlond and Dustin Wolters of Maryville.
Cree Mullenix finished with a 43 as Trenton’s second-low individual, followed by Lane Beverlin with a 44 and Nate Swann with a 45. Corbyn Guile also took part in the varsity match, finishing with a 47 on the day.
“We didn’t have a great day as a team,” Coach Travis Mullenix said. “Chase finished strong and birdied two out of his last three holes to tie for medalist honors. It was nice to see him finish a round in that fashion. We played well in our duals this year ending up 6-1.”
The Trenton JV was also in action, but had just three golfers. Nick Gass led the JV trip with a 46 while Tucker Franklin shot a 53. Cade Darting finished with a 61.
LeBlond’s JV had the low JV score with a 188. Maryville’s JV shot a 201.
The match finishes up the regular season for the Bulldogs, who will now take part in district tournament action on Monday. The Class 2, District 8 meet will be held at Hidden Valley Golf Course in Lawson, with teams to tee-off at 9 a.m. In addition to Trenton, other teams slated to compete are LeBlond, Brookfield, Carrollton, Lathrop, Lawson, Maryville, Penney High of Hamilton, Plattsburg and Richmond.
‘We are looking forward to the district tournament on Monday at Hidden Valley in Lawson,” Coach Mullenix said. “They will be tough to beat on their home course. LeBlond has beaten us this year a couple times, too. We will have to play well to have a chance at the district title but we are definitely capable. The boys just need to all put it together at the same time. We will be taking two freshmen, a sophomore and two seniors to districts this year, so our experience level is all over the board. Nate and Corbyn have played very well this year as freshmen and I really look for them to step up in their first district tournament.”
