Grundy R-5 sent both its high school and junior high track teams to the HDC Conference Track Meet on Wednesday in Bethany.
Both the R-5 boys and girls squads took fourth in the high school division while the junior high placed fourth and the boys squad was fifth.
The varsity teams came home with five first-place medals. On the girls side, Mckenna Owen took top honors in the 400-meter dash, then teamed with Ivy Rottman, Emily Milazzo and Elizabeth Novak for a first-place finish in the 1600-meter relay. Cade Mullenix won first in the boys 300-meter hurdles and teamed with Thomas Dalton, Alex Webb and Destin Gann to take first in the 1600-meter relay. The team of Webb, Tyler Stiles, Chris Burkin and Brady Huffman picked up the other first-place win for R-6 in the 3200-meter relay.
Finishing in second place on the girls side was rottman in the 800-meter run and Matana Munday in the shot put. The boys second-place winners were Gann in the shot put and Mullenix in the triple jump.
Taking third for the girls were Rottman in the high jump, Owens in the 200-meter dash, the 400-meter relay team of Kylie Littleton, Leigh Ronayne, Milazzo and Novak and the 800-meter relay team of Littleton, Rottman, Milazzo and Novak. Third-place winners on the boys side were Eller in the shot put, Clayton Radcliff in the triple jump, the 800-meter relay team of Stiles, Gann, Mullenix and radcliff and the 400-meter relay team of Dalton, Webb, Clayton Radcliff and Mason Radcliff.
The North Harrison girls and Winston boys took the HDC Conference titles in the high school division.
In the junior high competition, Grundy R-5 had four first-place finishes on the girls side, led by Zoe Littleton, who took top honors in both the long jump and high jump. She was also a member of the winning 1600-meter relay team, along with Saedee Jackson, Emma Baxter and Alissa Webb. The 800-meter relay team of Baxter, Alissa Webb, Jackson and Morgan Axtell also finished first.
The boys had three second-place finishes, led by Isaiah Davidson in the shot put and Russell Neeley in the discus. The 400-meter relay team of Wayne Baxter, Carter Searcy, Davidson and Carson Radcliff also finished in second place.
Taking third in the meet were Littleton in the triple jump; Jackson in the 800-meter run; the girls 400-meter relay team of Emma Baxter, Webb, Axtell and Makenzy Lawyer; the boys 800-meter relay team of Wayne Baxter, Jonathon Stimpson, Zane Rottman and Carson Radcliff; and the boys 1600-meter relay team of Wayne Baxter, Stimpson, Zane Rottman and Lane Kenley.
The North Harrison girls and Gilman City boys won the junior high titles.
