Trenton Golfers Just Miss Tourney Title

Apr 29, 2014 | Golf, Sports & Recreation

The Trenton High School boys golf team traveled to St. Joseph on Monday, competing in the Fairview Golf Invitational hosted by LeBlond High School. LeBlond would win the team title with a score of 327, but just barely as Trenton and Lawson finished in a two-team tie for second with scores of 329.
Trenton’s second-place effort was led by Chase Tolson, who finished sixth individually with a score of 79. Tolson recorded a 39 on the front and a 40 on the back to arrive at his total.
Behind Tolson, Nate Swann turned in an 81, tying him for ninth individually. Swann shot a 42 on the front nine and a 39 on the back. Cree Mullenix shot an 84 after twin 42’s in the nine-hole splits. Mullenix’s mark was good for a tie for 12th overall individually. Rounding out the Bulldogs’ team total was Lane Beverlin, who shot an 85, good for a tie for 15th. Beverlin carded a 46 on the front nine, but battled back with a 39 on the back.
Corbyn Guile was also in action for Trenton’s varsity, carding a 92 after nine-hole scores of 46 and 46. Nick Gass played as a JV entrant and finished with an 86 after shooting a 43 on both the front and back nines. Gass’ mark earned him a JV medal at the tournament.
“Chase had another good day, but it could have been better,” Bulldogs’ Coach Travis Mullenix said. “He bogeyed his last three holes to shoot a 79. Nate also had a solid round, earning an individual medal. Lane struggled on a few holes on the front but got his short game going to shoot a nice 39 on the back. Cree put together a couple 42’s for a respectable 84 and Corbyn played pretty consistent golf again. Nick Gass had a great day, earning medalist honors on the JV side.”
Today’s golf dual with Princeton has been cancelled due to inclement weather. Trenton is now off until the district tournament Monday.
