The Trenton High School boys golf team scored a nice win over Chillicothe on Tuesday at the Riverside Country Club in Trenton. The Bulldogs combined to shoot a 156, 41 strokes better than the visiting Hornets’ mark of 197.
Trenton was led by Chase Tolson, who returned in a big way after missing the Cameron Tournament. Tolson finished with a pair of bogeys to card a 36 and take medalist honors for the dual. Nate Swann was right behind Tolson with a 38 and Lane Beverlin carded a 40. Rounding out Trenton’s team score was Cree Mullenix, who finished with a 42. Nick Gass was also in varsity action and came around the nine-hole layout with a 43.
“Chase had a nice round today,” Trenton Coach Travis Mullenix said. “He finished bogey-bogey to shoot 36. Nate really played well, too. We had a very solid day as a team. Not necessarily our best stuff, but a very respectable team score.”
With the win, Trenton’s dual record improved to 5-0 on the season.
On a day when the varsity scored a big win over rival Chillicothe, the Bulldogs’ junior varsity also were winners. In fact, Trenton’s JV team score of 193 was four strokes better than that of Chillicothe’s varsity mark. The Chilli JV shot a 244 on the day. Corbyn Guile led the Bulldogs’ JV squad with a score of 41.
“Nick Gass and Corbyn Guile have really been battling for that five spot and both played well today,” Mullenix said. “The competition has been good for both of them.”
Tucker Franklin shot a 45, Drew Dolan had a 53 and Conner Lovell rounded out the JV team total with a 54. Cade Darting was also in action for the Bulldogs’ JV, shooting a 72.
The Trenton golf team will travel to Chillicothe on Thursday for the Chillicothe Tournament. Tee time for the event is scheduled for 9 a.m.
