The Pleasant View R-6 Board of Education met for a school calendar hearing, a regular monthly meeting and a closed session for personnel and legal matters on Thursday night at the school.
Following the hearing on the 2014015 school calendar, the board agreed to set the date for the first day of classes at Aug. 20. Superintendent Tiffany Otto said the last day is scheduled for May 14. Later in the meeting, the calendar was approved by the board and includes five early-outs during the school year for teacher professional development, two full weeks out for winter break and six days built in for weather days.
Election results from the April 8 election were certified with Jill Reeter, Tim Allen and Luke Gibson chosen to fill the three-year terms available. Allen and Gibson were sworn in during the meeting. Mrs. Reeter was absent and will be sworn in at a later date. The slate of officers for the Pleasant View Board of Education will remain the same, with Danny Westcott serving as president, Tim Allen as vice president, Jill Reeter as secretary and Jeff Berti as treasurer.
The board selected Lifetouch Photography for school picture services and the full-day preschool tuition has been set at $3,285 for next school year. A Title I presentation was given regarding a Reading Recovery grant program and the board voted to accept the proposal. The board also accepted a recommendation by the staff to use NEE as the required teacher evaluation tool.
The board was updated on upcoming field trips, improvements to the school safety plan and summer maintenance, all of which were presented during the superintendent’s report. There will be an early out on May 16 and May 19, with May 19 serving as the last day of school. Eighth grade graduation will be held on Friday, May 16.
During a closed session for personnel, the board approved extra duty contracts for the 2014-15 school year, reviewed non-certified evaluations and maintenance/custodian applications. A legal matter was discussed with no action taken.
The next regular board meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 13.
