Lady Bulldogs
The Lady Bulldogs were paced by Tenna Roberts, who brought home three medals. Roberts finished second in the 400-mater dash with a time of 1:05.88 and was sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.19. Roberts also combined with Whitley Richman, Karli Crawford and Ayron Osborn to place eighth in the 4×400-meter relay with a time of 4:40.32.
Ally Ockenfels also scored a second-place finish, placing runner-up in the shot put. She threw 33-3 to earn second.
Osborn scored medals in all four of her events with a third place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:36.78. Osborn also took fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 32-10.5, was on the 4×400-meter relay team that took eighth and combined with Lexie Tolson, Richman and Mason Hooyman to finish fifth in the 4×800-meter relay with a time of 11:35.84.
“Overall, for our first meet, I thought our girls competed very well against some good, quality teams,” Lady Bulldogs’ Coach Chris Parks said. “I was really proud of the way our freshmen competed in their first meet.”
Bulldogs
Charlie Hoffman earned four medals for the Trenton boys, picking up two individual and two relay medals. Hoffman was fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:06.12 and fourth in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:58.09.
In the 4×800-meter relay, Hoffman combined with Thomas Mack, Wynne DeVorss and Trent Crawford to finish fourth with a time of 9:17.44. Hoffman, Gavin Griffin, Trey Shields and Dalton Ellis combined to place fifth in the 4×400-meter relay with a time of 3:42.89.
Dalton Ellis added two individual medals to his haul, placing seventh in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 18.03 and sixth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 45.26.
Dakota Schultz placed in three events, taking fourth in the high jump with a mark of 5-6.75. Schultz was also eighth in both the pole vault and triple jump. Schultz cleared 10-6.5 in the pole vault and jumped 37-0.5 in the triple jump.
Other placewinners for the Bulldogs at the meet included Dakota Anderson, who was sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.56; the 4×100-meter relay team of Anderson, Jonathan Lamp, Travis Leeper and Clinton Brenner, which placed sixth with a time of 46.59; Crawford, who was seventh in the 3200-meter run with a time of 11:15.25; and Shields, who was eighth in the 400-meter run with a time of 55.59.
“That’s a big meet for us,” Bulldogs’ Coach Wes Croy said. “We are kind of right in the middle size-wise. There are some schools that are significantly bigger than us that we will see when it comes district time at the Class 3 level. Then there are some schools that are smaller than us. So, it’s a good meet to have a chance to have a little bit of success, but also to see how you measure up against some pretty good runners and athletes from the bigger schools.”
Oak Park won the boys’ meet with 102.5 team points and Lincoln College Prep was second with 86. Smithville rounded out the top three with 81 points and Grain Valley and Harrisonville followed with 77.83 and 71 points respectively. Savannah and West Platte finished just ahead of Trenton in eighth.
“For the most part we were really pleased with how we performed,” Croy said. “We had some really positive things happen for us. We know there are some areas where we really need to work and improve, but it was good to get on the track, get a meet under our belt and get an idea of where we are at and what direction we want to go.”
Trenton’s track and field teams will return to action on Tuesday, traveling to the Higginsville Invitational. Action at the meet gets under way at 4 p.m.
