Area FFA Teams Begin District Judging

Trenton and Grundy R-5 FFA chapters each qualified one team for state competition following the first day of Northwest District Career Development Event judging on Tuesday in Maryville.
The two chapters will be sending their Farm Management teams to the state event later this month. The R-5 team of Mason Alley, Destin Gann, Mckenna Owens (10th overall) and Emily Torrey placed sixth while Trenton had the ninth-place team. Members included Adam Kirby (13th overall), Michaela Jaycox, Caitlin McNabb and Jenna Meservey.
Trenton’s FFA Knowledge Team has also qualified for state, having placed eighth in a contest held last week.
Princeton qualified three teams on Tuesday, including the first-place horse judging team. Brent Faulkner, Drew Cox and Nichole Oswalt finished 1, 2 and 3 respectively in individual judging.
The Princeton Livestock Team finished second and had the third-, fourth- and fifth-place judges respectively in Thomas Mallinson, Justin Hamilton and Abby McLain. Tessa Schwartzkopf finished eighth.
Princeton’s third qualifying team was the Poultry Team, which was fourth. Team members were Jacob Schwenneker (sixth), Savannah Millburn (10th), Hunter Boxley and Damien Miller.
Gilman City also qualified three teams for state. The Soils Team of Hayley Burnett, Saige Holmes, Trevor Burrows and Joslyn Newton finished fifth. Taking seventh were the Agronomy and Dairy Foods teams. Members of the Agronomy team are Hailey Francis, Morgan Mullnix, Morgan Reed and Hannah Snuffer (12). The Dairy Foods Team includes Shania Harris, Ryleigh Hightree, Kady Speery and Mikayla Toombs.
The Entomology Team from Jamesport finished third and is statebound. Team members are Nate Sutton (5), Tyler Lane (11), Ashly Madson and Dillon Cook.
Mercer qualified its Horse Judging Team for state. Jessica Lewis (7), Brittany Snow (9), Bryce Shipley and Jessica Phillips finished third.
Other judging teams and where they finished included:
 Trenton – Agronomy, 18th; Dairy Foods, 23rd; Entomology, 17th; Floriculture, 22nd; Horse Judging, 28th; Nursery/Landscape, 11th; Poultry, 14th; and Soils, 16th.
Grundy R-5 – Soils, 15th; Dairy Foods, 24th; and Floriculture, 20th.
Gilman City – Livestock, 19th; Farm management, 19th; and Floriculture, 28th.
Mercer – Livestock, 15th; Poultry, 10th; Soils, 10th; and Entomology, 19th.
Jamesport – Poultry, ninth; and Dairy Foods, 27th.
Judging continues today at Maryville. The state contests are being held April 24-25 in Columbia.
