Ella E. Sorlie, an 80-year-old Trenton resident, died at 5:50 a.m. on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at Eastview Manor Care Center in Trenton.
Memorial services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Trenton.
Ms. Sorlie was born Oct. 23, 1933 in Hennstedt, Germany, the daughter of John and Marie Voss Erp. At the age of 15 she moved to Trenton, where she graduated from Trenton High School. She continued her education with a bachelor’s degree from Northwest Missouri State College in Maryville and a master’s degree from Butler University in Indianapolis, IN.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, JoAnne Sorlie and her husband, Subhash Gupta of Okemos, MI; three sons, Peter Sorlie and his wife, Susan of Menlo Park, CA, Paul Sorlie and his wife, Christine of Rochester, NY and James Sorlie and his wife, Rowena Bocarro of Lisbon, Portugal; nine grandchildren, John, Benjamin, Lisa, Amelia, Kenneth and Evan Sorlie and Malani, Aaron and Sonya Gupta; a sister–in-law, Helmi Erp; and two nephews, Dirk and Jens Erp.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, John Erp.
Memorial donations may be made to either the Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Trenton Master Gardeners Club and left at or mailed to Whitaker-Eads Funeral Home.
