Marvin D. “Sam” Hickman, a 78-year-old resident of Princeton, died on Saturday afternoon March 15, 2014 at Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at the Slater Funeral Home in Trenton with Rev. Eugene Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Ridge Cemetery, south of Modena.
There is no scheduled family visitation.
Mr. Hickman was born on Feb. 29, 1936 in Modena, the son of C. C. and Eva Elizabeth Snyder Hickman. He graduated from Princeton High School, then graduated from North Central Missouri College at Trenton with an associate of arts degree. He graduated from Truman State University in Kirksville with a bachelor of science degree and a bachelor of science in education degree. He then graduated from the University Of Missouri-Columbia with a bachelor of science in agriculture degree. He was employed as a teacher of mathematics and science for almost 14 years.
He was veteran of the U.S. Army and a retired farmer.
He was married at Cainsville on April 22, 1982 to Lelah Hackney, who survives of the home.
He is also survived by one sister, Doris Moore of Princeton; two sisters-in-law, Louise Hickman of Joplin and Laura Malcolm of the state of Iowa; one brother-in-law, Martin Hackney of Unionville; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Margaret Keating; and one brother, Warren Hickman.
