Hobert Junior Dodson, a 71-year-old reident of Clifton Hill, died on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014 at the Harry S. Truman Veterans Hospital in Columbia.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Chapel in Princeton. Bro. Roy Hopkins will officiate. Burial will be in the Swan Cemetery, south of Ravanna.
A family visitation is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 28, 2014 at the funeral home, where general visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m.
Mr. Dodson was born near Ravanna in Mercer County on Oct. 18, 1942, the son of Hobert Carvin and Imogene “Jean” Pauley Dodson. He was raised on a farm south of Ravanna and was a 1959 graduate of Ravanna High School. After graduation, he ran a filling station in Ravanna until he married and moved to Kansas City, working as a truck driver for Coca-Cola.
In January 1967, he was drafted into the Army and served in Vietnam for one year, receiving the Purple Heart and other medals.
After his discharge in 1969, he and his wife, Beverly, ran a dairy farm in Mercer County until 1986, when he and his family moved to Huntsville, where he worked on a farm and later for Custom Composite until he retired. He enjoyed returning to north Missouri on weekends to work on his farm, enjoyed doing things with his family and going to his grandchildren’s school activities.
He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 15026, the American Legion Post No. 0006, both of Moberly, and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 48 of North Missouri.
He was married on May 12, 1962 at the First Baptist Church in Princeton to Beverly June Coker, who survives of the home.
He is also survived by his daughter, Stacie Ann Sharp and her husband, Larry of Moberly; a granddaughter, Lacie Ann Sharp; three grandsons, Brett Sharp, Brad Sharp and his wife, Mattie and Brian Sharp and his wife, Claudia; two great-grandchildren, Travis Phelan and Ava Jo Sharp; a brother, Bob Dodson of Corydon, IA; his sister, Betty Maring of Unionville; one niece, Kris Dodson of Allerton, Iowa; six nephews; brothers-in-law, Jerry Coker and his wife Eunice of Colfax, WA and Randy Coker and his wife, Jill of Carol Stream, IL; and several cousins, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother-in-law, Herschel and Evelyn Coker; a sister-in-law, Wilda Dodson; and a brother-in-law, Tommy Maring.
The family suggests memorial contributions to a church youth program of the donor’s choice.
