Today was the first day for candidates to file for office subject to the August 5 Primary Election, with several incumbents filing in Grundy County and a race under way for the circuit clerk and ex-officio recorder position.
Tammy Hanes and Becky Stanturf, both Republicans, filed for the position of circuit clerk and ex-officio recorder, currently held by Democrat Charlene Arnold, who has chosen to not seek re-election. Mrs. Hanes is currently the clerk in the associate division of Grundy County Court, while Ms. Stanturf is the deputy circuit clerk. Also filing this morning was Carrie Lamm Clark, a Republican who is seeking her party’s nomination for prosecuting attorney. Cristine Stallings, a Democrat, is currently serving in the position after being appointed by Gov. Jay Nixon following the resignation of Carol Wetherell. As of press time, Ms. Stallings had not filed.
Incumbents filing this morning were Betty Spickard, county clerk; Rick Hull, presiding commissioner; and Steve Hudson, associate circuit judge. All are Republicans. The deadline to file for the August Primary is March 25.
