Building, Nuisance Board Hears About Action On Nuisances

Feb 25, 2014 | City Council, Headline News

The Building and Nuisance Board of the Trenton City Council heard several reports and got a new co-chairman during a meeting on Monday night.
Code Enforcement Officer Donnie Vandevender reported on properties that have been declared as nuisances. A second letter has been sent to the owner of property at 1427 Merrill St. while ownership of properties at 1414 and 1416 Shanklin Avenue is trying to be determined. The listed owners say they have sold the properties and Vandevender is now trying to contact the new owners. He is also working with the owners of a burned-out trailer, located at 2735 Lakeside Place.
The board discussed properties owned by Troy Hanes and Vandevender reported that a timeline had been set up regarding repairs to one of the three buildings in question. Vandevender said Hanes had been given until March 1 (weather permitting) to replace a porch on a home he has on Tinsman Avenue, adding that Hanes has begun work on that project. He also plans to paint, repair and replace windows on a building at the corner of Tinsman Avenue and Donaldson Street. Vandevender is to inspect a third building on Donaldson Street to see if anything can be done with the structure before a timeline is set.
Vandevender reported that a concern about a wood stove at 205 Ellison St. does not violate the city’s code and that debris is the yard is being addressed as a nuisance by the city police.
Vandevender said that contracts have been signed with the owners of six properties that are on the city’s demolition list. Once utility concerns have been addressed, Vandevender said the work will be moving forward.
Stan Lowrey was named co-chairman of the Building and Nuisance Board, replacing Vince Neal, who is no longer a board member. David Mihalovich attended his first meeting as the newest member of the board.
