The North Central Missouri College men’s basketball team bounced back with a win on Monday night, defeating the William Penn University junior varsity 109-96 in a make-up game.
It wasn’t an easy win for North Central as William Penn’s JV came in having defeated some junior college teams this season, including some Division I junior colleges. The Pirates were able to take the game, though, behind a lot of offense.
NCMC’s offense featured a balanced attack that saw six players reach double figures. Tyrell Thirkield had 31 points to pace the Pirates while Jory Woodson totaled 19 points and six assists and Xavier Newson added 18 points and 10 rebounds. NCMC also got 14 points from Tyler Peterson, 13 points and eight rebounds from Andrew Berry and 10 points from Justin Seamon.
“I thought we played a good team basketball game,” Pirates’ Head Coach Steve Richman said. “This was a game we had to go out and battle for because they were a good, athletic team. That win guaranteed us an over .500 record for this season and I think that is important, especially for a young team like this.”
With the win the Pirates moved to 15-11 overall on the season. The NCMC men will return to the court on Wednesday, traveling to Sedalia to take on State Fair Community College at 7 p.m.
The North Central women are in action tonight, taking on Cottey College on the road in Nevada. That game tips off at 6 o’clock.
