Area Hoops Roundup 2-7-14

Several area teams were in action on Friday night as Princeton, Mercer, Newtown-Harris and Grundy R-5 all had teams in action.
Brashear Girls 44
Grundy R-5 Girls 41

The Grundy girls held a slim lead over Brashear entering the final frame, but couldn’t hold on as the home team outscored the Lady Panthers 9-3 in the final frame to pick up the three-point win.
Emily Milazzo led the Lady Panthers with 17 points, Elizabeth Novak added 12 and Matana Munday scored 10. The Grundy girls fell to 3-15 on the season with the loss.
Grundy R-5 Boys 64
Brashear Boys 26

The Grundy boys rolled over Brashear, walking away with a big win.
Destin Gann led Grundy with 12 points, Mason Larson scored 10 and Clayton Radcliff added nine. Grundy also got seven points from Mason Radcliff and five each from Isaac Chamberlin, Alex Webb, Elliott O’Neal and Cade Mullenix. With the win the Panthers moved to 14-6.
Mercer Girls 58
North Harrison Girls 43

The Mercer girls overcame a slow start that saw the Lady Cardinals trail 18-11 after the first quarter and 28-23 at halftime to pick up yet another HDC Conference win. Mercer roared back in the second half, overwhelming North Harrison to pick up a 15-point win.
Bailey Owens scored 31 points to lead Mercer. Nicole Kost had 10 points, Lindsay Wyatt added nine and Hayley Sample scored six. Chantel Robinson added two to round out Mercer’s total.
With the win, the Lady Cardinals moved to 19-1 on the season.
Mercer Boys 45
North Harrison Boys 31

The Mercer boys picked up a conference win as well, taking advantage of a 14-3 run in the fourth quarter to pull away for the win.
Trey Wilson scored 15 points to lead Mercer and Cash Hartley added 13 for the Cardinals, who moved to 10-10 on the season with the win.
Princeton Boys 70
Worth County Boys 49

The Princeton boys cruised past Worth County, jumping out to a 24-14 lead in the first quarter and pulling away throughout the game for the 21-point win.
Brant Faulkner paced the Tigers with 25 points and Justin Hamilton added 14. Princeton also got 12 points from Steffan Elliott and five each from Hunter Boxley and Jordan Adams. Drew Cox and Jason McLain each added four points.
Princeton moved to 13-7 overall on the season with the win and improved to 2-4 in Grand River Conference play.
Putnam County Girls 51
Newtown-Harris Girls 35

The Newtown girls were unable to upset Putnam County, falling by 16 points. Abby Wells scored 14 points to pace the Lady Tigers and Becca Johnson had 10. Roni Busick added eight for Newtown.
With the loss, the Lady Tigers fell to 6-11.
Putnam County Boys 78
Newtown-Harris Boys 67

The Newtown boys made it a close game, but wound up on the losing end. Micah Busick and Adam Crawford each scored 25 points to lead Newtown.
The loss dropped the Tigers to 8-9 on the season.
