NCMC Draws Split With Penn Valley In KC

The North Central Missouri College basketball teams were in Kansas City on Monday night, battling Penn Valley in a Region 16 make-up doubleheader. The night was a split for the two schools as North Central took the women’s game 81-58, but the Pirates dropped the men’s contest 109-77.
In the women’s game, North Central was led by Brooke Parton, who scored 24 points. Kayla Oetterer added 21 points and Samone Redditt finished with 12 points and eight assists. Nancy Berwanger added 10 points for the Lady Pirates.
“We moved the ball extremely well on offense and played extremely unselfish,” Lady Pirates’ Head Coach Jenni Croy said. “We jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.”
With the win, the Lady Pirates improved to 9-12 on the season.
The NCMC men couldn’t hang with Penn Valley, falling by 32 points. Tyler Peterson had 21 points to lead NCMC while Tyrell Thirkield scored 18 and Jory Woodson added 11.
With the loss, the Pirates fell to 10-10 overall on the season.
The Pirates’ men’s-only match-up with William Penn University’s junior varsity has been postponed, but will be made up at a later date.
Both NCMC teams are scheduled to be at home on Wednesday, weather permitting, playing host to the Culver Stockton junior varsity at the Ketcham Community Center in Trenton. Action begins with the women’s game at 5:30 p.m. and the men will follow at 7:30.
