Funeral services for George Wendell Guess are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 31, 2014 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Trenton. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, north of Trenton.
A visitation is scheduled from 6 until 8 o’clock tonight (Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014) at the church. Open visitation is under way at the Whitaker-Eads Funeral Home in Trenton.
Mr. Guess, an 82-year-old resident of Trenton, died on Tuesday evening, Jan. 28, 2014 at Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton.
Mr. Guess was born on April 19, 1931 in Albany, the son of Richard Wayne and Doris Madden Guess. He graduated from Albany High School and was drafted into the United States Marine Corps, where he served during the Korean War. After returning from the war, he received a bachelor of science degree from Maryville College.
He was married on Aug. 20, 1955 to Margaret Ann Young, who preceded him in death in 1982. Mr. Guess worked for seven years as a teacher for the Trenton School District before starting Guess Basement Construction, which he operated for 25 years. After selling his basement business, he operated the Trenton Sand Company until retiring in 1994.
He was married on Dec. 29, 1984 to Sandra Kay Hughes Burson. After retirement, he spent much of his time as a wood craftsman.
Mr. Guess is survived by his wife, Kay of Trenton; two daughters, Ellen Dean and her husband, Tom of Kansas City and Lou Anne Templeton of Virginia Beach, VA; three step-children, Scott Burson and his wife, Margaret of Kansas City, Elisa Burson and her close friend, Sharon of Keller, TX and Todd Burson and his wife, Rene of Burleson, TX; five brothers, Jim Guess of Albany, Maurice Guess and his wife, Nell of Albany, Glee Guess and his wife, Donna of Albany, Bill Guess of Phoenix, AZ and Vince Guess and his wife, Sandy of Scottsdale, AZ, a sister, Joyce Newman of Albany; 11 grandchildren, Ryan, Meghan, Taylor, Jessica, Shawna, Aaron, Ashley, Zachary, Blake, Braden and Riley; and a great-granddaughter, Ryleigh.
Those preceding him in death include his parents; his wife, Margaret Ann; and brothers, Max and Larry Guess.
Memorials are suggested to the North 65 Center and may be left at or mailed to the Whitaker-Eads Funeral Home, 813 Custer St., Trenton, MO 64683.
