The North Central Missouri College basketball teams were swept over the weekend in a Region 16 doubleheader at St. Louis Community College. The Lady Pirates were defeated 79-59 while the NCMC men fell 87-71.
In the women’s contest, North Central trailed 45-31 at halftime and wasn’t able to battle back in the second half as St. Louis tacked on six more points to the advantage before the game’s end.
NCMC was led by Samone Redditt, who had 19 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Nancy Berwanger added 17 points off the bench.
The men’s game saw the Pirates play a good first half, before dropping off drastically in the second. NCMC trailed just 45-40 at the break, but St. Louis outscored the Pirates 47-26 in the second half, putting North Central away.
The Pirates were paced by Jory Woodson, who had 23 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals in the loss. Xavier Newson added 19 points and Tyrell Thirkield and Tyler Peterson each scored 10 points.
The NCMC women will host William Penn in a women’s only match-up on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. Both teams travel to Penn Valley in Kansas City on Saturday.
